LLB (Hons) Business Law
Since qualifying as a solicitor in 1989, Nicholas Kingsley-Smith has specialised in property and planning law. He is friendly and approachable to his clients who include commercial property owners, HMO Landlords and householders, developers, farmers, entrepreneurs, as well as private property owners objecting to development.
What is unusual in Nicholas’ approach is his sheer determination to resolve his clients’ problems and to ensure they achieve their aims. He combines inventiveness with lateral thinking to produce ideas and solutions that are far outside the run-of-the-mill. In fact he is known for his ability to bring a different view to the most difficult problems and he will leave no stone unturned in his pursuit of a solution.
Nicholas specialises in solving planning problems. His work includes advising on development potential, applications, planning objections, appeals (both planning appeals and enforcement notice cases), negotiating with local authorities throughout England over planning breaches, formulating defence strategies on prosecutions, judicial review, challenges against Inspector decisions and many other facets of planning litigation. He acts for a large number of HMO landlords in relation to their planning and enforcement problems. Securing valuable planning permission for his clients and maximising what his clients can achieve under Permitted Development are two of the aspects of his work that Nicholas particularly enjoys. He is also very effective in coordinating the work of architects, surveyors, builders, and others involved in land development projects.
In addition to his wide experience, Nicholas is a Legal Associate of the Royal Town Planning Institute.
